Diversity Experiences
Diversity Practicum at Dorothy Moses
This semester I am in my Diversity Practicum at Dorothy Moses Elementary school. I have only been there for a short amount of time, but it has opened my eyes to the diversity that exists even in Bismarck, ND. There are students with divorced or incarcerated parents. One student was not at school until 2PM because her mom did not even know that she missed the bus that morning. It is a whole different world and there are a lot of parents who aren't very involved in their child's lives. Some students do not get enough sleep at night and fall asleep in class. My Kindergarten teacher's classroom that I am in actually has nap time after lunch recess because some of her students need it, and sleep regularly during naptime. My experiences at Dorothy Moses have prepared me for the more daunting and surprising things that can happen in a classroom.
Rome Study Abroad Spring 2014
During the Spring of 2014 I was fortunate enough to be able to study abroad in Rome, Italy for 114 days. While there, I was able to experience the world in a whole new way. I traveled to historical sites including the concentration camp Auschwitz in Poland. I was able to meet many different kinds of people, sample the local cuisine and participate in an urban lifestyle. I was able to experience amazing cultures that opened my eyes to all the things the world has to offer. For four short months I was a Roman, not just a student or tourist. It was an amazing experience that cannot be summed up into words.
Below is a slideshow of some of the pictures from my experiences abroad.
